Limit an alert rule to workstations.

Alerts › rules. Type sits at the top of a new rule. Workstation is one tick, next to server and laptop.

Type and tags combine. A workstation rule that also ticks a site reaches workstations at that site, and nowhere else.

Tick workstation

Open Alerts › rules and press + rule. Under type, tick workstation. Leave the others clear. The chip says every workstation in Example Co, and the line says it covers 1 of 6. Reception PC is the workstation. Accounts server, files01, Lab host, Branch router and Spare laptop are not, so they stay off this rule. None ticked still means every type. The address is typed and not added yet.

Add who is told, then read the sentence

Press add contact. The grey sentence reads: tell email ops@example.com when a warning or worse (any kind) opens on 1 machine workstation, and again when it resolves. Press add rule when that sentence is the one you want. This shot stops before that. Kinds left empty means every kind. A tag such as site/Melbourne narrows it further. Limit an alert rule to servers is the same editor with server ticked instead.

Rule editor with workstation ticked, an email contact, and a preview that names workstation
The sentence names workstation and ops@example.com. Add rule saves it. Nothing has been saved in this shot.

Servers are Limit an alert rule to servers. Laptops are Limit an alert rule to laptops. The rest of the rule — kinds, severity, who is told — is Tell someone when a machine needs attention. Picking a site instead of a type is Limit an alert rule to one site. The same tick on a report is Limit a report to workstations. A desktop that should stay quiet overnight is Leave a desktop out of offline alerts.
