Alerts › rules. Type sits at the top of a new rule. Laptop is one tick, next to workstation.
Open Alerts › rules and press + rule. Under type, tick laptop. Leave the others clear. The chip says every laptop in Example Co, and the line says it covers 1 of 6. Spare laptop is the laptop. It has no group yet, and the type tick still includes it. Reception PC is a workstation, so it stays off, along with Accounts server, files01, Lab host and Branch router. None ticked still means every type. The address is typed and not added yet.
Press add contact. The grey sentence reads: tell email ops@example.com when a warning or worse (any kind) opens on 1 machine laptop, and again when it resolves. Press add rule when that sentence is the one you want. This shot stops before that. Kinds left empty means every kind. A tag such as site/Melbourne narrows it further, and Spare laptop has no site, so that tag would drop it. Limit an alert rule to workstations is the same editor with workstation ticked instead.
Workstations are Limit an alert rule to workstations. Servers are Limit an alert rule to servers. The same tick on a report is Limit a report to laptops. The rest of the rule — kinds, severity, who is told — is Tell someone when a machine needs attention. The type on the machine is Change what kind of machine this is.
